How to choose a dietitian in Islamabad

Credentials, questions to ask, and what a first consultation should actually look like — a practical guide to choosing a dietitian in Islamabad you can trust.

Islamabad has no shortage of people offering diet advice — some qualified, many not, and the difference is not always obvious from a social media page. Choosing the wrong one costs more than money; it costs time spent on a plan that was never going to work for your body or your life. Here is what I would tell a friend looking for a dietitian in Islamabad, from the other side of the consultation desk.

Check the qualification, not just the title

"Dietitian" and "nutritionist" get used loosely online, but a registered clinical dietitian has a specific academic and clinical training background — typically a degree in nutrition and dietetics followed by supervised clinical practice. Ask directly what qualification someone holds and where they trained. A practitioner confident in their credentials will answer plainly.

  • What is your qualification, specifically, and where did you train?
  • Do you have clinical experience with my particular concern — weight, PCOS, digestive health?
  • Is the plan built around my actual diet, or a template applied to everyone?
  • What does a typical first session cover, and how long does it take?

A good first consultation has a shape

It should include a real history — your current eating pattern, your schedule, any medical conditions and medication, and what has and has not worked for you before. If a first session skips straight to a printed meal plan without asking any of that, the plan was not built for you specifically, regardless of how professional it looks.

In-clinic or online

Both are legitimate. In-clinic sessions in Islamabad allow for body composition measurement and a more thorough initial assessment. Online consultations suit a busier schedule or a location outside the city, and the quality of guidance should not differ between the two — only the setting does.

The right dietitian is not the one with the most dramatic before-and-afters online. It is the one who asks about your actual week before telling you what to change about it.

What I try to offer in my own practice

In nine years of one-to-one practice in Islamabad, the plans that have actually lasted for patients were never the strictest ones — they were the ones built around a household's real cooking, adjusted rather than replaced. That is the standard I would encourage you to look for in any dietitian you consider, including me: someone who asks before they prescribe, and who is honest about what is realistic.

If you would like to start with a proper history and an honest assessment rather than a generic plan, booking a consultation is the direct way to do that.
